Yoakum Trash

image

Yoakum, Texas I don’t think you have a grasp on what recycling is. If a refinery dropped this much oil on the ground the E.P.A would slap them with a huge fine. Why are you enabling you citizens to do this? When it rains where does this oil go?

I would quit recycling if this is how bad it makes a city look.

Maximizing my Tripod

image

I’m on an interview shoot today and find myself out at a cemetery. Remember, we get paid to tell the entire story ?  So once upon a time there was a Dryer, TX and I’m shooting video near there today. I came with the interview tripod and now need my low profile tripod. I find the Sony F’S 100’s philosophy of giving you a tripod mount on each side of the camera very nice. With a flip of the plate I found a new way for my Tripod to rest on 3 legs/arms.

Public vs Private in Corpus Christi

Help! our public landscaping in Corpus Christi makes out town look like crap.

Public Landscape work in Corpus Christi, Texas

I don’t think Mesquite was a part of the original landscape plan.

When I travel I’m reminded how public services can work. Last week I had the privilege to work in McAllen, Texas. Despite sharing a boarder with a third world country McAllen has always been a very clean city. One of my buddies spent last weekend in McAllen and also came back impressed with this south Texas town. Next time you are in town compare the food, shopping and cleanliness.
Last week I really admired the landscaping and how sharp US-83 looked. While driving in Corpus Christi today I noticed how crappy our landscaping looked on South Padre Island Drive.

We can be better than this Corpus Christi. Right?

This is a vast contrast to what I saw in McAllen last week. The streets were clean and the landscaping looked as if it was done by a private company and not the municipal yard services. Clearly a good looking city can be done. I know there are folks in Corpus Christi who can pull this off because when I looked in the opposite direction of the mesquite tree growing on SPID and I saw Moore Plaza. The landscape beds had groomed oak trees and freshly turned mulch.

So take a look and ask yourself why our city doesn’t take care of what it has before it tries to build something else?

Please Corpus Christi lets take care of the things we have spent money on before we choose to build something else that will look great when we open it and then decay due to lack of maintenance.

The Blanco Lavender Festival – 2014

The last few years we have tried our best to make it to Blanco, Texas during their Lavender Festival. Sometimes we make it for a few hours, sometimes none at all but we love it when we get to spend a full day there. 2014 was a good year for the Perrin Family. We had plenty of time to pick and play in the lavender field. Here is a selection of photos from this years trip.

The Blanco Lavender Festival is put on by the Blanco Chamber of Commerce. Next years festival will be on June 12 – 14th 2015.
We hope to see you there.

Ride of a lifetime – Bycicle

I had a unique idea pop into my head after watching a bike documentary about riders tackling the great divide.

Bike roadmap from Corpus Christi to Valentine Texas

Corpus Christi to Valentine, TX. 571 miles on a bike.

I’m kicking around the concept of riding my bicycle from Corpus Christi to my land outside of Valentine, TX. The basic numbers make it a 7 day ride to get there. 2 days will be spent Lying dead on my property and then 7 days back.
wow, now that I have written that down and read it a few times it sounds crazy. My wife has been in support of this concept and said she will ride as my support team. I love her but think I could never repay her for the sacrifice.

So there you have it the basic idea of a bike-packing trip. For better or worse I still think it would be a great trip. America ByCycle is a resource that has been entertaining and informative. I would suggest you check them out.
