Business Card History

This week I have been working to sell off some old books. I have been using Amazon.com and have been having some good results. While thumbing the pages of a book I came across an original Big Box Pro business card. Here it is in all its glory:

It that point the business was still ran out of the home office (the room I grew-up in at my parents house).
Its been fun over the years and we do a lot more video than we do audio but we still love the work.

Have a good one – Derrick

Wedding event- Ranch at San Patricio

When Kendra and I were first married she quit school teaching to be a videographer/editor. As the years have gone on the number of kids we have has grown. Kendra is an amazing mother and wife and her duties with the company have declined over the years. I miss her being there working with the clients and making me smile. On Saturday we had the opportunity to work a wedding together and I’m happy she was there with me.

Kendra is on a 100 years of happiness campaign and I’m happy to announce I made it to day #19. We are not big selfie people, but we had fun creating this one.

I had a great time working with Kendra and we enjoyed a date at McDonald’s afterward. Sure McDs is not the most romantic place to be, but out on a date with the wife is always a great place to be.

The Blanco Lavender Festival – 2014

The last few years we have tried our best to make it to Blanco, Texas during their Lavender Festival. Sometimes we make it for a few hours, sometimes none at all but we love it when we get to spend a full day there. 2014 was a good year for the Perrin Family. We had plenty of time to pick and play in the lavender field. Here is a selection of photos from this years trip.

The Blanco Lavender Festival is put on by the Blanco Chamber of Commerce. Next years festival will be on June 12 – 14th 2015.
We hope to see you there.

Specialized Bikes – Hardrock Sport 2014

I stopped off and picked up a 2014 Specialized Hardrock sport on 29in rims yesterday. I found the folks at Concho Bike Shop very helpful. On my first day I put 18 miles on it. Day 2 brought another 16 road miles.

We are on a little vacation so I have time to read the little red manual that came with my bicycle.
I found a few nuggets to laugh at:
Standover height – “…and bounce vigorously on your heels. If your crotch touches the frams, the bike is too big for you.”
Riding Safety “Remember that a bicycle always loses in a collision with a motor vehicle….” & “Never ride your bicycle under the influence of alcohol or drugs”
Night Riding – Well this chapter ends up being about riding when the sun goes down and not about riding in a car with a cool computer personality.
If your bicycle sustains an impact “First, check yourself for injuries, and take care of them as best you can. Next, check your bike for damage” – Really folks? Are there people who love their bike more than themselves?
Enjoy the ride – Derrick Perrin

Ride of a lifetime – Bycicle

I had a unique idea pop into my head after watching a bike documentary about riders tackling the great divide.

Bike roadmap from Corpus Christi to Valentine Texas

Corpus Christi to Valentine, TX. 571 miles on a bike.

I’m kicking around the concept of riding my bicycle from Corpus Christi to my land outside of Valentine, TX. The basic numbers make it a 7 day ride to get there. 2 days will be spent Lying dead on my property and then 7 days back.
wow, now that I have written that down and read it a few times it sounds crazy. My wife has been in support of this concept and said she will ride as my support team. I love her but think I could never repay her for the sacrifice.

So there you have it the basic idea of a bike-packing trip. For better or worse I still think it would be a great trip. America ByCycle is a resource that has been entertaining and informative. I would suggest you check them out.

San Angelo - Map My Ride

1st Bicycle Ride

Years ago my mountain bike went missing from my front porch. I miss that bike. It was a large frame bike for a big body boy.

Fast forward 5 years and I’m back on a bike. Friday Grason and I test road a few bikes at Corpus bike shops. It was great to be riding even if it was just around the parking lot. My hip doesn’t hurt while riding so this is a good thing.

We are in San Angelo right now and my father inlaw was nice enough to let me ride his new mountain bike. After 6 miles on the road I had a flat  front tire.

I walked the bike to the auto part store and bought some slime and a pump. Next, I buzzed to china-mart and grabbed a new tube and a snickers bar.

Well after my tail bone was soar I kept riding and completed my 16.39 mile ride.

No one was riding with me, there were no time trials, but this was a victory. Since December my hip has been off and on. I was happy to discover my body was feeling great after a 16 mile ride. I hope to hit the trail soon. I’m also in the market for a new XL bicycle.

I will post about my bicycling companion app “Map My Ride” after a few rides.

video edit bay

Number 1

“I’ve got a long way to get before I get back home” – Bob Schneider just played as I’m writing. Sounds like a great way to start this blog about my life.

Today I’m trying to complete a few video projects and decide what and how to work-over the office edit bay.

Edit bay at the home office

I closed in my outdoor patio last summer and have been working in this shell. Its great to be able to crank out projects and be close to the family. My big blowout window faces the backyard. The backyard has a large tree-house and swing-set I watch the kids play on why I edit. This edit bay is very functional but looks like hell. So that is one of my projects this week. I must find a plan and the energy to complete the little studio at the home.

Here is a look at the main studio office I work in.

Derrick Perrin with video camera in Big Bend

Derrick Perrin here, Hi

Derrick Perrin here. Starting up a new blog to step away from other popular social media conglomerates.

Over the last few years I have setup and ran blogs for my own business and a hired hand to help other small businesses get sites and information out to their customers.  This will be a journey for me. I cant spell for shit and really don’t care where commas go. I’m blessed/cursed with plenty of sarcasm to go around and like to share funny stories. Thanks for taking time to take a look at me and my ramblings.  -Derrick

AeroPress out camping

Aerobie® AeroPress® Coffee & Espresso Maker

The Aerobie’s AeroPress Coffee – Espresso Maker is my friend.

On my 36th birthday I received an Areopress coffee maker. Kendra, I thank you for this little kitchen gem.

Dollar for dollar this is the best coffee machined I have ever owned.
Derrick Perrin makes AreoPress Espresso

Cons –

  • Must heat water before using
  • Proprietary filter – can be replaced with a metal washable one for a fee
  • Uses 2x more coffee than a drip system

Pros –

  • Great tasting coffee
  • Travels well on camping trips
  • Really good tasting coffee treats

If you have a chance I would try one out. I have started giving these as gifts because I like the product so much.

So there you have it… espresso pressed coffee right there where you are. If you are a big time “Franchise Coffee” buyer and you want to save a buck on your coffee treats you might want to connect with this little press.

Stolen Bicycle – Specialized Hardrock Comp

After cleaning out my garage I left my 2005 HARDROCK COMP DISC bicycle next to my front door. I bought this bike from the Pedal bicycle shop in Corpus Christi on 09/30/2005. Someone took it from my property and I was crushed. That was my first new bike since I was in middle-school and I really liked it. When I worked in downtown Corpus Christi I would keep it at my office and ride around during breaks.

A tall person can ride a short bike but a short person could not fit on this tall bike. I’m sure the thief just saw something bright and shiny and made it their own. I would like that thief to bring my bike back to me.
